Crysler’s Farm

Morrisburg, Ontario, Sept 23, 2018

This was a little jaunt to explore a bit of the history of the War of 1812, and, to be more specific, the battle at Crysler’s Farm. From Wikipedia:

The Battle of Crysler’s Farm was fought on 11 November 1813, during the Anglo-American War of 1812 (the name Chrysler’s Farm is sometimes used for the engagement, but Crysler is the proper spelling). A British and Canadian force won a victory over a US force which greatly outnumbered them. The US defeat prompted them to abandon the St. Lawrence Campaign, their major strategic effort in the autumn of 1813.

You can get to this monument by following the (very few) signs to Upper Canada Village, which appears to have been closed on the day we were there, except for the tourist shop – very frustrating!

Anyway, here are some photos of the area.

First, our track. Under 4 kms. You can see that we just wandered around a bit, checking our the monument and the environs.

Signs describing the history of the place:

In the play area, a representation of the Crysler farmhouse, and a “Stephen was here” photo:

Also in the play area, a representation of the encampment for the soldiers.

That’s the USA, just on the other side of the river.

In one of the fields, a depiction of the soldiers:

And these are photos of or at the monument:

And the “I was here” photo:
