Farragut State Park (near Sandpoint)

Farragut State Park, June 27, 2012

Today, we hiked one of many trails in the Farragut State Park. Here is a trail map from the Idaho Parks and Recreation site.

Our target was a place called Buttonhook Bay, at the southern tip of Lake Pend Oreille. Here is the Google Earth map of the trek. We parked at the left end, and walked along the shore of Buttonhook Bay before returning to the chariot. The hike was 7.3 kms long.

This was quite an interesting hike, through some quite varied plant life, from grassland to rain forest. Here are some views of the trail.

At one point, a little creek paralleled the trail.

This is a shot of the little creek – maybe 2 feet wide here.

Here is a nice shot of Buttonhook Bay.

And now for some of the flora and funga. First, an orange flower (this means that I have no idea what its name is!):

A wild rose – just like in Alberta.

There were a lot more tiger lilies.

I think these are irises.

Some purple flowers.

An orange flower – it was on the top of a long skinny stem.

And a funky mushroom

And that’s the news and photos from Sandpoint today.
